Everyone likes to enjoy and engage in the sport they like. One of the risks which exist when playing any kind of sport is an injury which can leave you sidelined. There are two things to keep in mind when it comes to injuries; looking to avoid them and treating them when they occur.
Common sports injuries
- Sprains: Overstretching or tearing the ligaments results in a sprain. Ligaments are pieces of tissue that connect two bones to one another in a joint.
- Strains: Overstretching or tearing muscles or tendons results in a sprain. Tendons are thick, fibrous cords of tissue that connect bone to muscle.
- Fractures: Bone fractures are also known as broken bones.
- Dislocations: Sports injuries may dislocate a bone in your body. This can be painful and lead to swelling and weakness.
Treatment
The RICE method is a common treatment regimen for sports injuries. It stands for:
Rest
Ice
Compression
Elevation
Apply ice for 15 to 20 minutes at a time within the first 24 to 36 hours after the injury and allow your skin to return to normal temperature in between icing. Continue using the RICE treatment method for the first 48 to 72 hours after your injury.
At Enability, the treatment plan takes into account the objective of the patient is to return to the same activity/ environment in which the injury occurred.
Our goal is to ensure functional capacity after rehabilitation is the same or better than before the injury.
