WOMEN’S HEALTH
Women care for and are more sensitive to their bodies and as such know when something is wrong. Women have distinctive health issues which include menstruation, pregnancy, menopause, and conditions of the female reproductive organs.
However, there are also common health issues that plague both women and men but these affect women differently. For example:
- Women are more at risk of dying following a heart attack than men
- Women are more likely to show signs of depression and anxiety than men
- Women can have more significant effects of sexually transmitted diseases than men
- Osteoarthritis affects more women than men
- Women are more likely to have urinary tract problems
In order for women to live a full and healthy life, it is advised to cultivate and imbibe healthy lifestyles such as:
- Healthy eating
- Regular exercise
- Practicing safe sex
- Protection of the skin with regular use of sunscreens
- Not smoking
- Consumption of alcohol in moderation
- Visiting the doctor for regular body, teeth and eye check ups
- Getting routine mammograms from age 40 and above
- Getting routine pap smears every 3 years from ages 21-65
- Getting adequate antenatal and postnatal care during and after pregnancy
- Getting recommended cervical cancer and bone density screenings
- Consulting with a therapist once you feel your mental health being threatened by any factor
